Special Seminar: Catalytic Gasification of Waste – Oct 28

Special Seminar: Catalytic Gasification of Waste – Oct 28

The Clean Energy Research Centre and the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering invite you to their seminar. Title: Catalytic gasification of waste: economic and technical feasibility Speaker: Dr. Josephine Hill, University of Calgary, Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering Date: October 28th, 2022 Time: 1p.m. Location: CHBE 102, 2360 East Mall, Vancouver Abstract “What if waste wasn’t?” is a question that requires careful consideration. Although it appears attractive to convert waste into valuable products, the technical and economic feasibility of any conversion process must be carefully analyzed. Gasification is a process in which solids and liquids are converted to gases […]
Jasmeen Kaur Receives MANA Best Poster Award

Jasmeen Kaur Receives MANA Best Poster Award

Jasmeen Kaur, CHBE Postdoctoral fellow, has received the best poster award and travel grant at the Metabolomics Association of North America’s (MANA) 4th annual conference in Edmonton. Dr. Kaur received the award for her poster “Metabolic profiling of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted by the Corpse plant using GC×GC-TOF MS”, research carried out in Dr. Jane Hill’s Research Lab. The Best Poster award is a competitive award for competitors who clearly and enthusiastically describes the scientific merit of their research. Awards are based on effective visual and oral presentation, quality of research, and depth of understanding. Dr. Kaur’s research in the […]
Jane Hill Elected Chair of International Association of Breath Research

Jane Hill Elected Chair of International Association of Breath Research

Chemical & Biological Engineering Professor and Canada Research Chair in Breath Science and Technology (Tier 1), Jane Hill, has been elected incoming Chair of the International Association of Breath Research (IABR). The IABR was established in 2005 and has members from around the world. The IABR organizes conferences, meetings, and works closely with the Journal of Breath Research, to share the latest data and technologies to advance breath research. Dr. Hill’s research group pushes the technological boundaries of what can be achieved diagnostically using human breath. Her team focuses on discovering and validating biomarkers in breath for respiratory infections in humans […]

Seminar July 26th – Dr. Ahmed F. Ghoniem

Presented by: Clean Energy Research Centre Time & Date: Tuesday, July 26th at 3:00pm PDT Location: CHBE 202, 2360 East Mall, Vancouver Solar Thermochemical Hydrogen Production using a Reactor-Train System Abstract Hydrogen, as a fuel or a fuel component in ammonia, LOHC, etc., is set to become a major chemical energy carrier in long-haul (ground, water and air) transportation, some industries, energy storage and electricity production. Scalable and distributed hydrogen production requires significant improvement in efficiency and economics using mostly renewable sources and incorporating different technologies at all scales: materials, reactors and systems’ levels. An exciting development is a reactor-train system […]
