UBC wins ChemEcar and Oral Presentation Competition
UBC students have won both the ChemEcar competition and Oral Presentation competition at the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) Pacific Northwest (PNW) student conference at Oregon State University held April 14 and 15, 2023. The ChemEcar team submitted two cars, Super Blueper and Keep Your Ion the Prize. Super Blueper won both the ChemEcar performance competition and poster competition. Keep your Ion the Prize won the most creative car prize as well as a third place poster prize. William Chen Wins Killam Graduate Teaching Assistant Award
William Chen, a second-year PhD student in Dr. Madjid Mohseni’s research group in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, has been awarded a 2022/23 Killam Graduate Teaching Assistant Award! UBC is one of the six Killam institutions and yearly awards faculty and teaching assistants who demonstrate excellence in teaching. The Killam Graduate Teaching Assistant Award is given to individuals who “exhibit skills, abilities and contributions that result in a high level of respect from undergraduate students and supervisors”. Meghan Cooke Wins Women in Technology Scholarship
Congratulations to Meghan Cooke who received the Women in Technology Scholarship on November 4, 2022! The BC Scholarship Society awards 15 scholarships annually to women who are excelling in the study of Computer/Data Science, Engineering or Mathematics at a post-secondary level and who demonstrate commitment to the pursuit of a career in the Technology Sector. Four other UBC students received the award: Samantha Krieg from Civil Engineering, Coralie Tcheune from Biomedical Engineering, Emily Shibata from Computer Science, and Sarah McClelland from Biomedical Engineering who was also awarded the Indigenous Women in Technology Scholarship. Jasmeen Kaur Receives MANA Best Poster Award
Jasmeen Kaur, CHBE Postdoctoral fellow, has received the best poster award and travel grant at the Metabolomics Association of North America’s (MANA) 4th annual conference in Edmonton. Dr. Kaur received the award for her poster “Metabolic profiling of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted by the Corpse plant using GC×GC-TOF MS”, research carried out in Dr. Jane Hill’s Research Lab. The Best Poster award is a competitive award for competitors who clearly and enthusiastically describes the scientific merit of their research.
