Emily Cranston Receives LeSueur Memorial Award

CHBE Associate Professor, Emily Cranston, has received the LeSueur Memorial Award from the Society of Chemical Industry (SCI) , which was awarded virtually during the Annual SCI Canada Awards Dinner on May 5, 2022.


Dr. Cranston received the award, which is given to an individual for the development of technical excellence, for adopting “an innovative approach to address complex technical challenges. She has also been relentless in bridging pure technical concepts and industrial applications of cellulose-based products including cellulose nanocrystals, cellulose micro- and macro-fibrils, and hydrogels.”


Last year’s recipient of the LeSueur Memorial Award was Dr. Laurel Shafer, of the UBC Chemistry Department. Dr. Helen Burt of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, is also receiving an award at this year’s ceremony – The Julia Levy Award.
