Team StormWise Innovations, a group of five Environmental Engineering students from UBC, has won first place on the international stage at the 2025 Student Design Competition during the Water Environment Federation Technical Exhibition and Conference (WEFTEC) in Chicago, IL. The team members are Jaden Gauw, Jaden Mah, Kajal Mishra, Cindy Chow and Megan Slot and are led by UBC faculty advisor Dr. Zeina Baalbaki.
After placing first at the British Columbia Water and Wastewater Association (BCWWA) student design competition earlier this year, the team went on to represent both The University of British Columbia and Canada at WEFTEC with support from BCWWA.
Under the guidance of Dr. Baalbaki, the team advanced their design concepts into internationally-recognized solutions. Their project involved developing a creative and practical green infrastructure solution to improve stormwater runoff quality within the Nelson Creek watershed, in collaboration with the City of Coquitlam. UBC’s last first-place win at WEFTEC design competition was in 2019.
A huge congratulations to team StormWise Innovation!
