
The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering (CHBE) is proud to announce that Dr. Gabriel Potvin has been named a 3M National Teaching Fellow from the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE).
This prize is Canada’s most prestigious recognition in educational leadership and teaching at the post-secondary level. The 3M National Teaching Fellows embody the highest ideals of teaching excellence. Dr. Potvin plays a pivotal role in supporting the education of CHBE students by allowing and encouraging creative ways of thinking, problem solving and teamwork, necessary skills for any engineer. His focus on developing interdisciplinary and sustainable curriculum is just one of the many reasons he was chosen for this award.
Dr. Potvin is known for collaborating with students, treating them as true partners in their learning. He has also developed or co-developed over a dozen courses for the department. His educational leadership goes beyond CHBE – as the founding Academic Director of Academic Essentials, he has helped thousands of new students transition into UBC. Dr. Potvin plays a vital role in the department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, and his efforts to improve post-secondary education lead to better engineers and a better learning environment for all.
