Professor Johan Foster from UBC’s Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering was recently featured in an interview on CBC Radio’s Quirks and Quarks! In the October 19th episode, Professor Foster discusses his team’s innovative work on PFAS, often called ‘forever chemicals,’ and how their research could make a big impact in addressing water contamination.
The PFAS Challenge
PFAS are found in products like non-stick pans and waterproof clothing. Due to their resistance to breakdown, they have become a major environmental issue, especially in water systems.
Breakthrough in PFAS Research
Professor Foster’s team developed an innovative method to trap and break down these chemicals, marking a significant step in tackling water contamination. Their research was published in Nature Communications Engineering.
