In recognition of his contributions in important sectors and operations of chemical and biological engineering, including separations systems in nitration operations, bromine and nitrogen trichloride handling in chloralkali plants, fluidized bed combustion and calcination operations, scrubbing technologies for NOx control, and industrial electrolysis systems, flow batteries and electrochemical technologies for clean energy production. A major contributor to the growth of NORAM Engineering and Constructors Ltd. as one of Canada’s foremost engineering firms, Dr. Brereton’s contributions and technological innovations have advanced a range of chemical processes and industries. He has also provided important contributions in the areas of hydrodynamics, heat and mass transfer, reactor design and clean combustion, gasification and fast pyrolysis of natural and renewable resources for the production of fuels, hydrogen and chemicals.
