Nomi Danzig shares her experience in Chemical and Biological Engineering

Nomi Danzig is a class of 2025 alumnus of the Chemical and Biological Engineering (CHBE) program at UBC. During her time here, Nomi was an exceptional student, being at the top of her cohort each of her years in the program. Upon graduation, Nomi received the Governor General’s Silver Medal in Applied Science and the Society of Chemical Industry Merit Prize. She was named valedictorian for the Applied Science graduating class. Nomi Danzig Awarded Governor General’s Silver Medal

Nomi Danzig, who completed her Bachelor of Applied Science in Chemical and Biological Engineering in May 2025, has been awarded a Governor General’s Silver Medal. Nomi arrived at UBC in 2020 as the Toronto District School Board’s top scholar. In each of her years of study in the chemical and biological engineering program, she was at the top of her cohort, achieving a grade of 100% in a remarkable 10 courses. Her interest in sustainable engineering and biotechnologies led to co-op terms at STEMCELL Technologies and AGEIAS (Ah-Gee-Iss) Engineering Systems. CHBE Students win Research Paper Presentation awards at AIChE Regional Student Conference

Congratulations to Chemical & Biological Engineering student Laura Gomes Carvalho and Chemical Engineering student Aakash Kanagala on winning 2nd place and 3rd place respectively in the Research Paper Presentation Competition at the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) Pacific Northwest (PNW) student conference. Laura presented her work on the degradation of Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) from River Water using Electrochemical Oxidation under the supervision of Dr. Madjid Mohseni and Dr. Fatemeh Asadi Zeidabadi. UBC Chem-E-Car team wins multiple awards at AIChE Student Conference

UBC Chem-E-Car team wins multiple awards at AIChE Student Conference

The UBC Chem-E-Car Design Team won the Regional Chem-E-Car Design Competition at the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) Pacific Northwest (PNW) student conference at University of Calgary held April 11 and 12, 2025. The Chem-E-Car team submitted two cars, Wall-E-Car and Gru-Mobile. Wall-E-Car won both the Chem-E-Car performance competition and poster competition. Gru-Mobile placed second in the performance competition as well as a third place in the poster competition.
