Today, a remote Lhoosk’uz Dené community is holding a celebration to mark a joyful milestone. After decades of relying on bottled water, the village of about 50 people, located 200 kilometres west of Quesnel on Kluskus Lake, now has a steady supply of clean drinking water straight out of the tap, thanks to a new water treatment plant crafted to their unique needs. “We had to do things differently. A beloved friend and mentor to all in our engineering community, John was a professor emeritus in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering (CHBE) at UBC.  He served as Head of CHBE (then known as Chemical Engineering) from 1979 to 1987, and later as Dean of the Faculty of Graduate and Post-Doctoral Studies (formerly Graduate Studies) from 1990 to 1996. Dr. Peter Englezos, Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, has been awarded the R. S. Jane Memorial Award for 2021.Dr. Englezos has made contributions in the interdisciplinary field of clathrate (or gas) hydrates and is among the most cited researchers. He made contributions in the fields of optimization and papermaking chemistry. Dr. Englezos also published over 200 articles in his areas of interest including co-authoring a book on applied parameter estimation for chemical engineers. David Wilkinson appointed to the Order of Canada

Dr. David Wilkinson, CHBE Professor and Canadian Research Chair in Clean Energy and Electrochemical Technologies (Tier 1), has been appointed to the Order of Canada for his contributions to electrochemical science and engineering, particularly the ongoing development of fuel cell technology. Dr. Wilkinson was appointed to the Order of Canada on November 27th, 2020. Due to public health orders related to COVID-19, the ceremony was postponed.
