Graduate Secretary
UBC Chemical and Biological Engineering (1986 – 2015)
In recognition of her dedication, compassion, generosity, professionalism and commitment to providing exceptional service to graduate students and faculty in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at UBC. Helsa joined the department in 1986 as graduate secretary serving our PhD and Master’s thesis programs as well as the M.Eng program and the Professional Masters in Pulp and Paper Engineering program. For over 25 years, Helsa was the pillar of our graduate programs, an extremely able and dedicated graduate secretary who displayed and provided deep knowledge of university procedures. Helsa went beyond the call of duty in supporting the students, keeping track of scholarship deadlines, ensuring complex visa paperwork was processed, and that the students were in good spirits. Her attention to detail, work ethic and above all, compassionate approach was key to the success of our department and programs. Generations of students have expressed their appreciation for her dedication. Her legacy is not just one of administrative excellence, but of humanity, care, and integrity.
